Touching the Void

Last night I watched Touching
the Void,
a movie about two young men who attempted to climb an Andean
mountain of 21,000 feet. This is such a powerful story about living on the
edge. It took my breath away, and I was held powerfully in suspense until the
very end.

All of us live in life and death situations as we go through our days. We often delude ourselves by going unconscious that this is the dance we
are doing constantly. We are always walking on the edge of life and death. Mountain climbing makes this edge
visible. You are consciously aware that this is the situation in which you
climb.

In Touching the Void, Simon
and Joe face fear and death in ways most of us seldom experience. Their story
will absolutely inspire you with who we all are and with what is possible for
you in your life. I don’t recommend you tackle climbing Siula Grande yourself. I do recommend you find your own joyous edge for living a full life.

I don’t want to tell you too much about the movie. I want you to
rent it, and then tell me what you think, what you felt and experienced.

Joyous Edge Coaching guides you to take the healthy, self-loving risks you need to take to move forward in your life.

Mendocino 2007

This weekend Doug and I went to our favorite B & B on
the Mendocino Coast of Northern California, The Inn at Schoolhouse Creek.
(http) Our son Orion and daughter-in-heart Nichola went with us, and we had
such a delightful family time together. As you can see, Nichola is beginning to look pregnant.

We hiked the trail at Jughandle Creek Reserve, shopped in
Mendocino, enjoyed delicious breakfasts and wine tasting at the inn, played and
climbed at the Inn’s secluded beach, and ate delicious dinner both in Mendocino
and that we prepared ourselves in our cottage.

I also took photos of the beautiful wildflowers, which are
so plentiful this time of year. Here are some photos for your enjoyment.  P4150152

Atstinence Class Effectiveness

Results were just released ordered by Congress  regarding the effectiveness of sexual-abstinence education programs for our youth. The major finding is that students who take part in abstinence classes are just as likely to have sex as those who do not. In addition, the youth in the study report having similar numbers of sexual partners, with or without the abstinence classes.

These findings indicate an important principle in child development. Children are children and will make choices based on who they are as people in alignment with their natural development. When we try to get them to stop being children based on what we tell them, we are seldom successful. Have you noticed?

Children pay attention to their own inner feelings and perceptions about reality. You can talk until you are blue in the face, and you will seldom see any results. In order to change their behavior, children’s inner feelings and perceptions of reality need to change. This is an inner change, not affected much by your good ideas.

What changes children’s behavior is their experience and what they see around them. This is where you can affect change. All the atstinence classes in the world and reminders about morality will not stop children from having sex.

A Mom’s Win-Win-Win

Robin, the mother of two elementary school age children, is
a coaching client of mine who has come to me on several occasions for support
in having the joyous life she desires for herself and her children. Recently she shared with me a delightful
weekend she created for herself and people she loves.

Friday afternoon she and her children drove to the mountains
to play in the snow. This was a treat for the three of them to share! Robin enthusiastically shared. "We threw snowballs, attempted to make a snowman, but barely made a snow mound! My two children made snow angels and I couldn’t get my son off the sled disk. He must have gone up and down that hill 50 times! I had to wear snow shoes because I kept sinking to my knees in the snow. It was funny that the kids didn’t sink since they were so light."

Saturday evening they drove home, and Robin took her
children to their grandparents for the evening and all day Sunday. Both her children and their grandparents were thrilled to have the time together.

Sunday was a luscious day all for herself. Robin slept in
late “to about 8 or 8:30 and then I mosied around the house, relaxing and having some great spiritual time
on Sunday morning, followed by almost 5 hours at the spa with a facial,
massage and pedicure! What a relaxing, rejuvenating day!"

Reflect for a moment on all the win’s Robin created for
herself, her children, and their grandparents. Everyone got to have special
time and experiences with people they dearly love and enjoy. This is excellent, magical
creating at its best–win-win-win!

Are you inspired? You too can create something this joyous for yourself and the people you love. Begin by thinking of something
special you want to create for youself, something that would give you great joy.
Then see how many other people for whom you can create win’s at the same time.

Discover what a powerful, magical creator you are!
